This summer I made a mural using vertical screen printing techniques I recently learned from my friend Stefan Hoffmann. The content of the mural was appropriated from images in the Edwin and Terry Murray Comic Book Collection found in the Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library at Duke (+ from a Steve Ditko monograph and Love and Rockets, New Stories No. 1 by the Hernandez brothers). In the past four years I’ve been using the Murray Collection as a teaching tool and resource for my Art of the Comic Book and Zines class. It’s an amazing resource with over 75,000 comics! I really enjoyed making the mural and plan to make more in the future using some of my original stuff. For more info on vertical screen printing go to: www.verticalscreenprinting.com

SPEEDBALL PRO RELIEF INK!

If you want a super reliable, very rich black ink try Speedball's SUPERGRAPHIC BLACK by Bill Fick. It's oil-based but cleans up with soap and water!

Where to buy linoleum
The best place to buy linoleum is Dick Blick. Choose from a variety of pre-cut sizes or by the role. Battleship Gray is best.

Fantastic! It reminds me of an Andy Warhol exhibit that I went to at the Art Institute of Chicago where they purposely created installations not too disimilar to this.

Thanks! Warhol’s “Cow” wallpaper is a huge influence.
